LCD and Plasma televisions both are new age technologies. They have the same colorful pictures and bright images that are very attractive. They even have similar packages. This is generated by a lamp located behind the screen. Florescent backlighting is used in the LCD TV to produce images that is why LCD TVs require lesser power than the plasma TV.
Production of LCD television and the extra pixels that are put into it has a higher cost of production. That is the reason why you can see that plasma televisions are being sold cheaper than LCD counterparts.
