How Good Is HD TV?

Television viewing has been taken to new levels of clarity through the advent of technology known as high definition. The high-definition television like existing televisions has a resolution, though today with this new technology of HDTV it is much higher than existing sets. Resolution basically is the number of lines that can be displayed on a television set and these lines of resolution are comprised of pixels. These pixels are a number of tiny single ‘dots’ on the screen.

To put the quality of HDTV viewing into perspective, a HD TV has 10 times as many pixels as an ordinary analogue television set. This increase in pixels equates to a great increase in resolution which in turn provides a highly defined picture on the HDTV screen.

Today is day 2 of becoming a savvy HDTV buyer. Over the last few days, I will share a system for getting the best deal when you buy HDTV. If you have missed any, check through the other posts.

Here are the parts to this process of becoming a savvy HDTV buyer:

1) Check Website

2) Check Ratings - here is what we are looking at today

3) Research HDTV Sellers

2) Check HDTV Ratings!

The second step in the process is checking what others have to say about the HDTV set you are considering buying. At this point, you may have an idea of a set you want to buy. However, all we have is what sales people and marketing wants us to believe about the product.

High Definition TV sets have been around for a while, so finding HDTV ratings is much easier. The ratings will tell you from consumers, what they thought about the product, if there were any problems, etc. It is important to come to your own conclusions about a product however, as there are some people who had a bad experience, not down to the product, but had some other reason to put down an otherwise good product.

Join me tomorrow as we take a look at the last step of buying a HDTV set as a savvy shopper. You should see great savings and a better purchase if you follow through with the steps.

Until tomorrow - get savvy!

What You Need To Get DirecTV HDTV

To gain access to DirecTV HDTV, you will need a satellite dish, and a receiver that works with the HDTV signals. This can be done with the H20/HR20 or H21/HR21 set top box. You will also need a HDTV set. Sony Bravia HDTV’s should have no problem with the DirecTV HDTV set top boxes, but make sure you ask before buying.

You will need to make sure, however, that the set top box you choose has the ability to view new and upcoming HDTV satellite channels. When looking to buy, you can ask the salesperson or check online.

If you want a digital video recorder (DVR) model, then the HR models are the set top boxes to look for. So with the ones available at this time, it will be the HR20 or the HR21. Again check before ordering.

The DirecTV system generally will be installed by someone, rather than you have to install it. It is best to ask when buying, so you don’t have to get stuck with not knowing how to install and get the system working.
